Strap On Your Helmet

Anyone else love a good headband? I’m so happy they are back in style! But you know what? Even though it looks stylish, that’s all it is. It’s there for looks. 💃

🆘It’s not going to protect me if I’m riding a motorcycle. It will be useless if a rock is thrown at my head. I’m gonna need a helmet for that. The Bible talks about the “helmet” of salvation, using a metaphor to describe what our brand new life of salvation can do for our minds. Unfortunately, many of us are wearing our Christian salvation like a useless headband—just there for looks but powerless to help us or others. We haven’t learned to put on our helmet... ⛑

🚴🏼‍♀️. When we race through this life, we are going to encounter dangerous thoughts, imaginations, ideas, beliefs, or arguments. Sometimes, those thoughts can hit us right upside the head and make us fall to the ground. ‼️ The Bible talks about the “fiery darts of the enemy”— those are thoughts or beliefs that are wrong. Different than what God says. And you know what? Many of us put up with those thoughts, keep them around, start to believe them, then start to LIVE them. One day, our minds and lives have been totally overtaken by a thought that has wrecked our destinies.

➡️BUT IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE THIS WAY!

⛑ The helmet of salvation is this - a mind renewed to the thoughts and beliefs of God. When we were born again, our SPIRIT became brand new. It has NO PROBLEM believing God, because it is alive to God and dead to sin. We are now risen with Christ! It is no longer I that lives but Christ that lives within me. So HOW do I get all messed up, even though I am God’s child? WHY do you and I lose it sometimes?🤷🏼‍♀️

👉🏼We leave our helmet at home.

👉🏼We start living out of our soul (mind, will, emotions) instead of living with our Spirit in charge.

👉🏼We consciously choose to listen to lies, surrounding ourselves with bad stuff instead of good.

👉🏼We stop looking at ourselves in the mirror of God’s Word, so we forget who we are. 🚷

💖Now, all along, our spirit is just fine. Our spirit is at perfect peace because it’s alive to God. However, we are usually living more conscious of our souls, while our spirit’s still small voice is buried amidst screaming messages all around us. We are often not applying the helmet of salvation to our minds, and thus we open our SOUL realm up to whatever the heck Satan decides to send our way. Or it’s something our family member says. Or it’s something that strange lady at the grocery store implies. Wherever those mind-wrecking thoughts come from, they should’ve just bounced right off, like a rubber ball 🏀 bounces off of a concrete floor. When they don’t, it’s because we aren’t conscious enough of our salvation.

Thoughts like, “You’re gonna die of a heart attack,” or, “What’s WRONG with you? You’re so lame,” or, “You’ll never be as _______ as so-and-so,” are NOT THE TRUTH. But I know I’m not the only one who has allowed thoughts like these to hit me in the gut and rock my day. It’s on those days that I have forgotten to put my helmet on. Sure I’m a Christian, but I’m treating my salvation more like a headband, for show, than as a helmet, for life-or-death protection. I must have a revelation of WHO I AM AS A SAVED CHILD OF GOD, EVERY SINGLE DAY OF MY LIFE.

I need Jesus more than the air I breathe, and this faith I’m living isn’t a collection of cute slogans or handy mind tricks. It’s a matter of life or death.

❗️When my body was sick, with no answers, it was the healing provided to me through my salvation covenant that got me healed.

❗️When my husband started having all the symptoms of a blood clot in his lung, along with warnings from the hospital that this was a life or death situation, it was the power of our authority provided with our salvation that caused us to command it to go, and the doctors couldn’t find it anymore.

❗️When I struggled with mild depression several years ago after a season of change and stress, it was applying my helmet of salvation daily that set me free.

❗️When a car accident should have happened but suddenly the car pulling out in front of us was somehow BEHIND US, it was calling on the name of Jesus as His child that moved that situation out of my way.

❗️When panic attacks paralyzed me as a young girl, it was standing on the power of my salvation that removed fear and brought peace.

❗️When betrayals and things to break my heart have come, it has been the knowledge of my salvation—that I am my Father God’s treasured possession—which has healed my wounds.💝

It’s life or death, friend. ⛑

You and I MUST:

❤️ KNOW what salvation has paid for.

❤️ Believe every promise provided with salvation.

❤️ Set our minds on (meditate, remind ourselves constantly of) who we are because of salvation.

Here are just a few scriptures that you and I need to apply daily as our “helmet” against evil thoughts. (Read and then share some of your favorite scriptures of Truth below!)

Galatians 4:7 “So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.”

Ephesians 1:3 “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.”

Ephesians 2:4-5 “But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions–it is by grace you have been saved.”

Galatians 2:20 “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

Romans 8:38-39 “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Isaiah 43:4 “Because you are precious in my eyes, and honored, and I love you, I give men in return for you, peoples in exchange for your life.”

1 Peter 2:9-10 “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.”

…but Salvation is a helmet, not a headband.
